Private

Adjacent is not identical. Test geography, workforce, and scope before bidding.

Renewables work is adjacent to your delivery, not identical to it: geography, workforce and scope all need testing before a technical, site or environmental services firm bids. This is the private tenders playbook for service suppliers, not for energy developers or large utilities. Entering a new market is its own decision: bidding into a new sector or country.

Takeaways

  • Geography: remote project locations with thin local supply chains, mobilisation priced, not hoped.
  • Workforce: specialist tickets, inductions, and camp logistics, held or credibly obtainable by mobilisation.
  • Scope adjacency: honestly scored overlap with current delivery; below half is a new business, not an extension.

How adjacent is this work, really?

Hypothetical, to show the shape: a civil maintenance firm eyes balance-of-plant services at a wind farm six hours from its depot. Score the overlap task by task: access roads and drainage, adjacent; turbine-adjacent electrical isolation, not held, licensed subcontractor required; environmental compliance reporting, partly held, one hire away. Below-half overlap means pricing a new business: new tickets, new supervision, new buyer relationships (with insurance that must cover the unfamiliar scope); see reading an insurance schedule. Name the licences the scope requires and check each against holders, not intentions.

What does the gate look like?

Geography priced with freight, accommodation, and roster costs. Workforce evidenced with tickets and mobilisation dates. Scope adjacency scored above half, or the entry investment named, capped, and approved as market entry rather than smuggled inside one tender’s margin. Buyer requirements read from buyer-published material, not from sector enthusiasm. Anything assumed about “how renewables buy” is a review item until project documents confirm it.
